On the 20th of October a workshop «Sociology on relationships and the marriage partner search process: the challenges of modernity» was held as a part of the project «Schoolchildren’s Academy» (HSE). To begin with, lecturers Olga Khvorostyanova and Polina Alekseeva demonstrated what it means «to think sociologically» to the high school students. Then the specifics of sociological research were discussed with such topics as the marriage partner search process, building relationships and creating a family given as examples. During the meeting both lecturers and young listeners were looking for answers to the following questions: what do online marketplace “Ozon” and a dating site have in common? Why do we sometimes fail to find a soulemate? What are the constraints modern society imposes on us in a partner search process?
Polina’s part of the presentation was based on the results of empirical research conducted within the framework of the research progect “The Paradox of Interrelation between Religion and Family in Modern Russia”, supported by the Russian Science Foundation in a form of a grant (project № 18-78-10089).
